About
This is a community package of Whalebird, maintained independently. It repackages the official upstream Linux build unmodified.
Whalebird is a desktop Fediverse client with a Slack-like, single-column layout: a server and account switcher down the side, one column of timelines at a time, and keyboard-driven navigation. It streams timelines live, raises desktop notifications for mentions, boosts, favourites and follows, and manages several accounts across several servers at once.
It speaks Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, Firefish, GoToSocial and Pixelfed, with unofficial support for Akkoma, Hometown and Iceshrimp.
Permissions: this package keeps a tight sandbox — network, display, audio and notifications, and no access to your files by default. Your accounts, settings and cached timelines live inside the sandbox. Attaching a picture to a post and saving an image out of a timeline both go through the desktop portal, which grants access to just the file you pick.
