AlterSend

This is a community package of AlterSend, maintained independently. It repackages the official upstream Linux build unmodified.

AlterSend sends files directly from one device to another. Nothing is uploaded to a server and nothing is stored anywhere in between — the transfer is peer to peer and end-to-end encrypted.

• No account, no signup, no email address
• No size limit: a photo and a 500 GB archive take the same path
• Share a code, a link or a QR code with the recipient
• Recipients without the app can receive in a browser
• Pair a device once, then send to it without a code
• Works on a local network or across continents
• Also available for macOS, Windows, Android and iOS

Received files go to your Downloads folder, which is the only place this package can write by default. Two permissions are deliberately withheld and can be granted if you want them:

• Webcam, to scan a peer's QR code instead of pasting the code: flatpak override --user --device=all com.altersend.AlterSend
• Somewhere other than Downloads to save into, without confirming the folder through the file-chooser portal each time: flatpak override --user --filesystem=home com.altersend.AlterSend

Picking files to send always goes through the file-chooser portal, so it works for any file you select without granting anything.
