About

FerrisPad is a single-binary text editor written in Rust that follows a strict philosophy: 0% CPU when idle, no runtime dependencies, and no telemetry of any kind.

  • Syntax highlighting for 50+ languages
  • Tab groups and named multi-project sessions
  • Lua plugin system, sandboxed by default
  • Built-in terminal
  • Regex find and replace
  • Arbitrary system-font picker
  • Light and dark themes
  • Opens very large files (read-only above ~1.9 GiB)

This package is maintained by FerrisPad's developer. It installs the official Linux release binary from FerrisPad's GitHub releases, unmodified, and the in-app updater is off: updates arrive through Flatpak.

In the sandbox, FerrisPad can open and save files in your home folder. The built-in terminal runs inside the sandbox, so it sees the runtime's tools rather than your system's. MCP agents connect through flatpak run com.ferrispad.FerrisPad --mcp-server.

Optional capabilities are not granted by default; enable them with "flatpak override":

  • Files outside your home folder (for example /etc or mounted drives): flatpak override --user --filesystem=host com.ferrispad.FerrisPad
  • Undo: flatpak override --user --reset com.ferrispad.FerrisPad
