HelixNotes

This is a community package of HelixNotes, maintained independently. It repackages the official upstream Linux build unmodified.

HelixNotes is a local Markdown note-taking app. Your notes are ordinary .md files in a folder you choose — no account, no company cloud, no lock-in.

• Markdown editor with a toolbar, slash commands, source mode and code highlighting
• Wiki-links between notes, an outline panel and a graph view
• Tasks view that collects checklists from every note, with priorities, due dates and a calendar
• Full-text search that also handles Chinese, Japanese and Korean
• Daily notes, tags with autocomplete, KaTeX math and Mermaid diagrams
• Version history with diffs, automatic backups and encrypted secret blocks
• Optional WebDAV sync to your own server, and AI writing tools via Ollama or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint

A vault is just a folder of Markdown files. By default this package can reach only your Documents folder; the app's own settings, search index, backups and version history live inside the sandbox and need no extra permission. To keep a vault somewhere else, grant that location:

• Anywhere in your home: flatpak override --user --filesystem=home com.helixnotes.app
• Just one folder: flatpak override --user --filesystem=~/Sync/Notes com.helixnotes.app
• An external drive: flatpak override --user --filesystem=/run/media/YOURNAME/DRIVE com.helixnotes.app

The app also offers to open a note's folder in your file manager; that goes through the desktop portal and needs no permission of its own.
