FreeOffice

This is a community package of FreeOffice, maintained independently and unaffiliated with SoftMaker. It repackages the official upstream Linux .deb unmodified, downloaded from SoftMaker at install time, and follows upstream releases automatically.

FreeOffice is a free office suite from SoftMaker that works with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. SoftMaker offers it free of charge for personal and business use.

• TextMaker: a word processor for DOCX, DOC, ODT and RTF documents.
• PlanMaker: a spreadsheet application for XLSX, XLS and CSV files, with charts.
• Presentations: create and show PPTX and PPT slide shows.
• PDF export from all three programs.

All three programs are installed together. TextMaker opens from the FreeOffice TextMaker launcher, and PlanMaker and Presentations have launchers of their own; from a terminal, use flatpak run --command=planmaker com.softmaker.FreeOffice or --command=presentations.

Display scaling: FreeOffice sizes its interface from the screen's DPI. On a HiDPI Wayland session where the compositor leaves X11 apps unscaled (for example Hyprland with force_zero_scaling, or KDE Plasma set to let X11 apps scale themselves), this package takes the DPI from the Xft.dpi setting those sessions publish, so the suite opens at full size. To pick a size yourself, run flatpak override --user --env=FREEOFFICE_DPI=192 com.softmaker.FreeOffice (96 is 100%, 144 is 150%, 192 is 200%). The size of dialog text can also be adjusted in Options, Appearance, User interface size.

Permissions: FreeOffice opens and saves files through its own file dialog, so this package grants the Documents, Downloads and Desktop folders, plus ~/SoftMaker, where FreeOffice keeps its settings, templates and dictionaries and first offers to save documents (the same folder a native install uses). A document opened from your file manager reaches FreeOffice wherever it is stored. To work anywhere in your home directory, run flatpak override --user --filesystem=home com.softmaker.FreeOffice.
