About

This is a community package of ElyMail, maintained independently. It repackages the official upstream Linux build unmodified.

ElyMail is the mail client of Ely Office, a set of offline-first desktop apps written in Rust with GPUI. It signs in to Gmail and Microsoft in your browser, takes an app-specific password for iCloud, and works with any other IMAP or POP3 and SMTP account.

  • Conversations, drafts, an outbox and full-text search across accounts
  • Rules, contacts, and folders you can keep offline in full
  • Write in plain text or Markdown; drafts are saved as you stop typing
  • Remote images and tracking pixels are not loaded unless you allow them
  • Import and export MBOX, save and open EML files

ElyMail connects only to your mail servers, and to the Gmail or Microsoft sign-in page when you add such an account. Passwords and sign-in tokens are kept in your desktop's keyring (GNOME Keyring, KWallet or another Secret Service provider); without one they last until ElyMail quits. Closing the window keeps ElyMail in the tray, where it goes on syncing and sending; on a desktop without a tray, or when another sandboxed app's tray icon takes the same name, closing the window quits it.

ElyMail can read and write your Downloads folder; other files are opened and saved through the file chooser, or from your file manager. Mail, the search index and settings live in ~/.var/app/ely.zacharyzhang.office.mail.

In-app updates are left to Flatpak: new upstream releases arrive as Flatpak updates.
