About

This is a community package of ElyPDF, maintained independently. It repackages the official upstream Linux build unmodified.

ElyPDF is the PDF app of Ely Office, a set of offline-first desktop apps written in Rust with GPUI. It reads and edits PDF files with MuPDF, recognises text in scanned pages with Tesseract, and signs documents.

  • Reading, searching and editing PDF files with MuPDF
  • Text recognition (OCR) for English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, bundled with the app
  • Signatures; signed and repaired PDFs are saved as a copy
  • Printing and export

ElyPDF works fully offline. The package shares the network only because opening a second file hands it to the window already open over a local connection. It can read and write your Documents and Downloads folders; other files are opened and saved through the file chooser, or from your file manager. Settings and recovery points live in ~/.var/app/ely.zacharyzhang.office.pdf.

To open files anywhere in your home directory by path: flatpak override --user --filesystem=home ely.zacharyzhang.office.pdf. Undo with flatpak override --user --reset ely.zacharyzhang.office.pdf.

In-app updates are left to Flatpak: new upstream releases arrive as Flatpak updates.
