AstroBurst

This is a community package of AstroBurst, maintained independently and unaffiliated with the AstroBurst project. It repackages the official upstream .deb unmodified and follows upstream releases automatically.

AstroBurst opens FITS and ASDF images, displays them, measures them, and composes and exports them. A Rust backend does the processing and a WebGPU shader draws the display stretch.

• Quick-look for any FITS HDU or ASDF array: stretches, colormaps, pixel readout with units and WCS position, a coordinate grid, and DS9-compatible regions.
• JWST and Roman data: native ASDF, data-quality flag decoding, calibrated photometry, cube spectra and moment maps.
• Astrophotography: calibration, integration with PixInsight-style rejection, a compose wizard for narrowband palettes, and processing tools such as DBE, PixelMath, deconvolution and HDRMT.

Two optional features use the network: plate solving uploads the frame to nova.astrometry.net, and colour calibration queries Gaia DR3 through VizieR.

Permissions: this package grants network access, the GPU, and read-write access to your Pictures and Downloads folders. To open or export images anywhere in your home, run flatpak override --user --filesystem=home io.github.samuelkriegerbonini_dev.AstroBurst.
