About

This is a community package of En Croissant, maintained independently. It repackages the official upstream build unmodified.

En Croissant is an open-source chess toolkit for studying and analysing games.

  • Analyse positions with UCI engines such as Stockfish, which it can download for you.
  • Store and search large game databases, and import your games from Lichess and Chess.com.
  • Build opening repertoires and train them with spaced repetition.
  • Solve puzzles and play against engines.

The package can read and write its own document folder, Documents/EnCroissant, where it keeps your games and repertoires by default. Engines, reference databases and puzzles stay in the application's private per-app directory, other files are opened through the file chooser portal, and it has network access for game imports and online analysis.

To keep documents somewhere else, grant that location and choose it in the settings: flatpak override --user --filesystem=/path/to/folder org.encroissant.app. Remove custom grants with flatpak override --user --reset org.encroissant.app.

Updates come through Flatpak. If the application offers to install an update itself, ignore it and update with Flatpak instead.
